Kakinada Seaports and APGDCL to set up FRSU LNG terminal in Kakinada

Kakinada Seaports Ltd and Andhra Pradesh Gas Distribution Corp Ltd is planning to set up a floating, storage and re-gasification (FSRU)-based liquefied natural gas terminal in Kakinada with an investment of Rs. 15000 million. The FRSU will have capacity of 3.5 mmtpa and will go up to 5 mmtpa when the land terminal is set up. It will be able to support about 2500 mw of power generation. The FSRU terminal in Kakinada will be first on the east Coast and another one is coming up at Gangavaram in partnership with Petronet.

Petronet to set up LNG terminal in Gangavaram

Petronet LNG Ltd is planning to set up a LNG terminal in Gangavaram in Andhra Pradesh. The company has invited bids to set up the 5 million tonnes capacity terminal for setting up gas storage facilities, re-gasification plant and marine facilities at Gangavaram. The terminal is likely to be completed by 2016. Apart from Dahej, the company is also setting up the Kochi LNG terminal which is to be completed by July 2013.

GAIL plans LNG terminal in Paradip port

GAIL is planning to set up an offshore LNG terminal in Paradip port in the state of Orissa. The company has signed an MoU with the Paradip port to implement the project. The capacity of the LNG terminal in the first phase will be 4 mtpa. It may be noted, GAIL is already setting up a Surat-Paradip pipeline project.

Ennore Port to have new container terminal

Ennore Port has signed an agreement with Bay of Bengal Gateway Terminals Pvt Ltd for the development of container terminal with a capacity of 1.5 million TEU, which will come up with an investment of Rs. 14070 million. Bay of Bengal Gateway Terminals is a special purpose vehicle promoted by Grup Maritim TCB, S.L., Spain; , Spain; Lanco Infratech Ltd, Obrascon Huarte Lain, S.A.and Eredene Capital PLC, UK/India. Construction is likely to begin in January 2011 and is to be completed by end 2013. It will be the first container terminal in India with a continuous quay length of 1 km designed to handle the largest container ship up to the size of 14,500 TEUs (twenty foot equivalent units) and can berth three mainline vessels simultaneously.

The port is planning to double its capacity from its present 30 million tonnes with an investment of Rs. 58900 million. It will also invest in dredging, a third coal coal berth for TANGEDCO and road and rail connectivity. IOCL is setting up a LNG regassification terminal at the port with an investment of Rs.. 43200 million which is likely to go operational by 2017.

The company has cancelled the agreement with Bay of Bengal consortium for delay in finalizing funds. A new operator is to be selected. Now the quay length is also to be developed in phases. Port of Singapore, L&T

Kattupalli port is set for commissioning

L&T Shipbuilding Ltd, a joint venture between TIDCO and L&T is setting up a captive minor port in Kattupalli near Ennore in Tamil Nadu with an investment of Rs. 20, 000 million. The port will function as a container terminal besides a shipyard for building flotilla for Coast Guard and Navy. It will also build offshore platforms. The port construction has been completed ahead of schedule and is in the process of obtaining clearances to commission the port.

Colachel Port likely to be developed in TN

Colachel Port, an ideal location near Kanyakumar near to international shipping route with sufficient drafts. Tamil Nadu Maritime Board has initiated a techno feasibility study on the port with Mumbai based iMaritime Consultants. Rites ‘Port Vision : 2020’ has also identified as a container transhipment hub port. However, the project will require a huge investment of around Rs.20,000 million and is looking for an investor.

Toyota & Nissan to export from Ennore port

Toyota & Nissan who are making India specific cars have plans to export a good percentage to European markets from Ennore port. They are likely to share some common infrastructure and to use Ennore port as exports base. Toyota will export Etios and Nissan will export Micra, while Nissan has already started trial exports this May 2010. 84

Sagar Island Port to be developed as full fledged port

Sagar Island Port which was mooted by Kolkatta Port Trust in 2001 has been revived. The draft which was available is around 10 meters is to be increased to 12 meters and it has lesser restrictions than Haldia and Kolkatta dock in Hooghly river. Kolkatta Port Trust has invited bids in 2009 and received 15 proposals. Sunderban Development Board had sought Union government assistance.
