Kochi Port developed during 1920’s  had been provided the status of major port in 1936. The port entrance is from the Cochin gut ( Vypeen Island and Fort) and has draft of 13.8 metre and width of 200 meters. A draft of 38ft is available to larger vessels at Ernakulam channel.
