Sagar Island Port to be developed as full fledged port

Sagar Island Port which was mooted by Kolkatta Port Trust in 2001 has been revived. The draft which was available is around 10 meters is to be increased to 12 meters and it has lesser restrictions than Haldia and Kolkatta dock in Hooghly river. Kolkatta Port Trust has invited bids in 2009 and received 15 proposals. Sunderban Development Board had sought Union government assistance.

Krishnapatnam Port to take up phase II of its development project


Krishnapatnam Port is planning to take up phase II of its development project in Krishnapatnam in eastern coast of Andhra Pradesh. currently, its facilities are located on north of Kandeleru creek. It has an iron ore berth, coal berth and  a general cargo berth. The phase II of the project involves setting up of 4 additional coal berths (3 on north side and 1 on south side (39 mtpa) and 1 container berth on north side and 5 container berth on south side to handle (3.3 million TEU). The project also involves additional dredging at berths to accommodate bulk cargo vessels.

Old port of Kakinada suffers on ban on rice exports


Old port of Kakindada which handles much of agricultural cargo in terms of rice, rice bran etc., With a ban on export of non-basmati rice, port daily workers who depend on suffers much. Further, the port is reserved only for new and self generated cargo and its survival is getting difficult. Read more

Karikal Port to help CPCL


Karaikal Port developed by Marg Construction Ltd, is bringing cheer to Chennai Petroleum Corporation Ltd. Its cauvery basin refinery is working with under capacity for want of crude. Supply from PY-3 basin for erratic and last 6 months production at PY-3 where stopped for technical reasons. Now CPCL is interested to lay a pipeline from Kararikal port to bring crude to increase its capacity utilization. It is also undergoing a debottlenecking programme. For more details click here
