New captive port proposal from Arcelor Mittal

Arcelor Mittal,leading steel producer which is setting up a steel plant in Keonjagarh district in Orissa has submitted a proposal to Orissa govt. to set up a captive port at Barunei Muhan, north of Mahanadi river at Paradip. The port planned in two phases will have 10.62 mtpa at the first phase and 17.3 mtpa at second phase. The port is expected to handle PCI coal, limestones, billets, slabs, HR coil sheets etc., It will have five berths and expects a traffic of 391 vessels turning around in the first year. The total channel depth at the end of commissioning the captive port will be 20 meters deep and a length of 10 kms. It also proposes to construct a double lane rail line connecting Paradip-Haridaspur line.
