NMPT to have a greenfield container terminal

New Mangalore Port Trust has invited bids to construct a greenfield container terminal at Mangalore. The proposed terminal will have a capacity of 374406 TEU and will be built on build-operate-transfer (BOO) basis. The container terminal will have a quay length of 300 meters and a width of 25 meters and can have capacity to handle large container ships of over 2500 TEU’s. L&FS Maritime Infrastructure, Grup Maritime TCI of Spain, Simplex Infrastructure, consortium between Adani Port and Mundra Port & SEZ, Essar Ports & Terminals along with Vadinar Oil Terminal have submitted bids and the authorities are awaiting clearance from Ministry of Shipping to select the developer.

NMPT to build a new POL berth

New Mangalore Port Trust is planning to invest Rs. 790 million to construct a new POL berth which will be berth no. 13. Tenders will be invited soon in this regard and the capacity of the berth will be 7.8 mtpa and is likely to be completed in two years. The berth is to have a draught of 15.1 metres and a length of 300 metres and vessels of 85,000 DWT to 1 lakh DWT can call at the berth. It may be noted, there are 3 such berth which are handling POL products in NMPT

New Mangalore Port –an overview


Mangalore Port, situated in Panmbur in western coast of Karnataka is an all-weather port came into existence on 1974. It has the deepest inner harbour and a largest LPG handling port in India. NMPT plans container terminal

New Mangalore Port Trust (NMPT) is planning a container terminal with a capacity to handle 3.7 lakh (TEU). It also plans to have a oil jetty to facilitate the needs of Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals. It has approached centre public- private appraisal committee for approval of the projects. It is already setting up a mechanized ore handling facility at berth 14.
