Krishnapatnam port gets financial closure for phase II



Krishnapatnam port in Nellore district of AP is all set to proceed with phase II expansion. It has achieved its financial closure of Rs. 40000 million with a consortium of 16 banks with SBI as lead bank.  Currently, the port has a capacity of 25mtpa and with phase II it will go up by 50 mpta. It will have a coal import potential of 37 mtpa, which will be used effectively by thermal projects coming up in the area. The port promoted by Navayugha is expected to achieve a turnover of Rs.25000 million by 2013 and break even by that time.

Dhamra Port to sign cargo pact with Tata Steel

 

Dhamra Port which is scheduled to be commissioned later this year, has signed a cargo pact with Tata Steel. Currently, Tata Steel uses Haldia (0.7 mt) and Paradip (1 mt) ports for metcoke imports. The venture promoted by Tata Steel and L&T is looking at prospective users for inking similar deals. The port will have 25 mtpa capacity and have two berths each for coking coal imports and iron ore exports. Dhamra Port is situated in an ideal location that provide access to hinterland for raw materials as well as deep sea port. 

Orissa to set up new ports in Astharanga and Chudamani


Orissa government is all set to sign MoU’s with Hyderabad based Navayugha Engineering to set up an All Weather port in Astharanga in Puri district of Orissa. The total cost of project will be Rs.19000 million of which Rs. 4000 million will be spent on rail connectivity. The port will have a cargo handling capacity of 20 million tonnes per year in the first phase.  Essel  Engineering,  a AV Birla group is also planning to sign an MoU with the state government to set up a captive port jetty at Chudamani in Bhadrak district. The port will have 2 million tonne handling capacity and will handle cement, thermal coal, iron ore, limestones, clinker, gypsum and other metals. According to soruces, the Chief Minister has approved the proposals to sign these MoUs.

Orissa govt. to set up new minor ports


Orissa government has planned to set up two minor ports, one at Gopalpur in Ganjam district and the other at Dhamra in Bhadrak district. While the first phase of the Gopalpur port has been completed, the Dhamra port work has been started. A company in the name & style of ‘Dhamra Port Co Ltd’ has been formed by the joint-venture of L&T and Tisco. Both the ports on coming up on BOT basis and after the lease period the state would own the ports.
