Kattupalli port is set for commissioning

L&T Shipbuilding Ltd, a joint venture between TIDCO and L&T is setting up a captive minor port in Kattupalli near Ennore in Tamil Nadu with an investment of Rs. 20, 000 million. The port will function as a container terminal besides a shipyard for building flotilla for Coast Guard and Navy. It will also build offshore platforms. The port construction has been completed ahead of schedule and is in the process of obtaining clearances to commission the port.

Vizhinjam International Seaport Ltd to develop the Vizhinjam Container port

Project Location : Vizhingam, Kerala

Vizhinjam International Seaport Ltd, a special purpose vehicle of Shipping Corp of India is to develop the new Vizhinjam International Container Terminal port -16kms south of Thiruvananthapuram. The company has initiated actions to invest Rs.4500 million to set up infrastructure facilities in the new port. Land acquisition is in progress and 35% of it is complete. The site has a natural draft of 20-24 meters and hence requires very less dredging. After phase I, the seaport will be able to receive ships of up to 8,000 TEU (Twenty-foot Equivalent Units). The project is conceived in such a way that in the subsequent phase, ships of even 12,000 TEU could easily berth at the port. The projected traffic for Vizhinjam Port under a moderate scenario is 6 million TEUs by the year 2042. It may be noted that, the new upcoming terminal is just one nautical mile away from the international East - West shipping route, where much of the traffic is being handled by Dubai, Colombo and Singapore ports. It is expected the new terminal will take some slice in the business.

Nagarjuna Oil Corp plans captive port in Thiruchopuram

Nagarjuna Oil Corp is planning to set up a captive port in Thiruchopuram in Tamil Nadu. The project cost is estimated at Rs. 25000 million to build key infrastructure facilities. The port will have capacity to handle 6.5 million tonnes of crude oil and 2.8 million tonnes of refine petroleum.

KSIDC to develop Tadri port

KSIDC is planning to develop the Tadri in Honnavar in North Kanara district of the east coast of Karnataka with an investment of Rs. 30,000 million. It has appointed Mir Group for consultancy and project management. Initially, the company study will involve traffic evaluation, geotechnical and bathymetric studies and social impact assessment. The development of port will help the nearby iron ore mines and power projects.

Latest News

A special purpose vehicle is formed as Tadadi Port Ltd to implement the project. The port will have a capacity of 62.36 million tpa and will have 8 berths - of this 4 will be iron ore and coal berths, 3 for general cargo and one for LNG. The berthing will be designed for 100,000 DWT (dead weight tonnage) for ore coal vessels and 40,000 DWT general cargo vessels, including two turning circles of 580-metre diameter each.
