Under a comprehensive National Maritime Development Programme in 2006, various initiatives had been launched to develop 11 major ports across India. It envisaged development through public private partnership with a massive investments to the tune of Rs.558040 million. It included development of port infrastructure viz. – new berths, rail and road connectivity, deepening, new terminals etc., 47 projects have been completed amounting to Rs.54958 million and it dropped 21 projects.
