Vallarpadam to offer attactive rates


Vallarpadam Container Terminal plans to offer attractive terms on par with Colombo Port. Currently, Colombo port offers cheaper rate than Kochi port and garners 90% of trans shipping market from India. For more details click here

Kochi Port – an overview


Kochi Port developed during 1920’s  had been provided the status of major port in 1936. The port entrance is from the Cochin gut ( Vypeen Island and Fort) and has draft of 13.8 metre and width of 200 meters. A draft of 38ft is available to larger vessels at Ernakulam channel. Cochin port to build dedicated terminal for Lakshadweep bound traffic

Cochin Port Trust (CPT) is to construct a dedicated terminal for the Lakshadweep-bound passenger and cargo ships. It has acquired 5 hectares land on the western side of Willingdon Island, between south coal berth and workshop jetty for this purpose. The proposed terminal will have a 300-metre-long berth, cargo storage area of about 400 square metre and a vehicle parking area. The project will entail an investment of Rs.320 million and has signed a MoU with Lakshwadeep port and is expected to become operational by 2011

Vallarpadam terminal project may be delayed


With elections around the corner, connecting roads to Vallarpadam transhipment terminal in Kochi is affected. Most of the construction works are on schedule, connecting links to ports – road and rail routes are at slow pace. This International Container Transhipment Terminal (ICTT) is planned at 3 phases and the first phase is likely to be commissioned by November 2009. It will have 2 railway sidings and can handle 12 container trains a day.
