Under National Maritime Development Programme-2006, the government of India has appointed project consultants to implement port devlopment projects. KPMG Meyrick Associates and Sai Techno Consultants have been appointed for Kandla Mumbai and JNPT. Halcrow Consulting and Ernst & Young had been appointed for Mormugao. Rotterdam Maritime Group & Tata Consultancy Services for NMPT and Vizag Port. Transcare Logistics & Pharas B V appointed for Cochin, Tuticorin and Paradip, Deolitte Touche for Chennai, Hamburg Port Consultancy & Consulting Engineering Services for Ennore Port, Royal Haskoning & Crisil for Kolkatta port. An Inter-Ministerial Group (IMG) under the secretary of shipping as chairman was formed in 2006 to make recommendation to reduce the dwell time at major ports in India – owned by government of India including corporatized port-Ennore. A team of officials visited Singapore and Rotterdam to understand and bring the best practices to Indian ports. For more details click here
Under National Maritime Development Programme of 2006, master plan for 12 major ports have developed with help of international consultants. These documents provide a road map for development to exploit the business potential without government financial support on ppp model.
