Marg Construction, a leading infrastructure company has commenced operations of its new all-weather port in Karikal in Tamil Nadu. The port has 2 berths with a combine cargo handling capacity of 5 mmtpa. It also has a backup area of 2.4 lakh sq.meters. The port is built on build, own and transfer basis (BOT) and the contract was awarded by the Pondicherry govt. in 2006. The draft of the port which is currently 13.5 meters will be increased to 16.5 meters in phases. The port also has facilities to handle dry and liquid cargo, containers, bulk cargo and project cargo. L&T Ramboll, DHI, Indomer Coastal hydraulics, International Sea Port Dredging, Vanoord India Pvt Ltd, Akash Dredging, Aster Infratech, Roshan Electricals Co, Oscean Sparkle were the project vendors.
