Vizag Port signs up with Sterlite to set up coal handling system

Vizag Port has signed up an MoU with Sterlite Industries to set up a mechanical coal handling system on general cargo berth at outer harbour. The project will entail an investment of Rs.4430 million which will enhance the capacity to handle 2,00,000 tonne DWT vessels at the general cargo berth. The Vizag Port has signed similar deals with 7 other companies, which offer concession like reduced cargo handling charges and preference in berthing of vessels. Some of the companies who have signed are SAIL, Essar Steel, Balmer & Lawrie etc., Balmer Lawrie will set up a multi-modal logistic hub spread across 65 acres in VPT in the Exim park.
