Karikal port gets rail connectivity

Karaikal Port which is in private sector (developed by Marg Ltd) is expected to get more business from the commissioning of rail link to Nagore which is just 1 km away from the port. However, river Vettar separates it a bridge had been constructed and the port plans to set up railway siding. Phase I of the port development had been completed in April 2009 and on completion, the port will have 9 berths capable of handling 47 mtpa.

Kerala Govt plans Beypore as an all-weather port

Consulting Engineers has been retained as consultant to conduct a feasibility study and to prepare a draft DPT for development of all-weather Beypore port in Kozhikode . The proposed project will be developed on public-private parternship basis and once the draft is accepted a tender will be floated to select the developer.

Latest News

In a pre-bid meeting held in February 2011, only a couple of companies have shown interest but no one responded for the global tender. The project is now being reviewed by Consulting Engineers.

Orissa to develop deep sea port at Palur

Orissa has identified 13 locations on its coast to build deep sea ports along its 480 km coast. These locations have been identified with technology from IIT, Chennai. The potential port locations are Gopalpur, Bahuda river mouth, Sonepur and Palur in Ganjam district, Baliharichandi and Astaranga in Puri district, Jatadhari Muhan in Jagatsinghpur district and Barunei Muhan in Kendrapara district, Dhamara and Chudamani in Bhadrak district as well as Inchudi, Chandipur, Bahabalapur and Subarnarekha in Balasore district. These ports will be developed as public-private partnerships. It may be noted, Gujarat has as many as 46 ports which is instrumental in its economic growth and Orissa is trying to emulate this model.

Mundra Port SEZ to develop Mormugao Port coal terminal

Mundra Port Special Economic Zone Ltd to develop Mormugao Port coal handling terminal on design, build, operate and transfer basis. The coal handling terminal will have a capacity to handle 6.5 mtpa of coal (and for the first year it will be 5 mtpa). The deal includes a concession period for 30 years from Mormugao Port Trust. The terminal is expected to commence operations by 2012. The objective of Mundra Port SEZ company to make it as a pan-India SEZ company with operations across India.
